Atmosphere & Light
There are some ideas that I’ve looked at from different angles over the years and keep coming back to things like atmosphere, water reflections and light. Over the last year, I’ve explored these concepts further through colour fields and contrasting marks, focussing on simplified landscapes that seem to dissolve into the distance through subtle tonal transitions and atmospheric perspective. I often start an artwork with a colour in mind and then explore its many variations, enjoying the pure joy of every expressive mark of the brush. At a deeper level, the works draw from timeless truths found in the ancient scriptures, bringing a sense of hidden treasure into my work.

There are treasures greater than silver and gold. With this artwork I wanted to capture a sense of treasures being stored in heavenly places, beyond decay because ‘Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will be also’ (from the book of Matthew). |
